Knights field hockey signs six for 2022 season – Bellarmine University Athletics


LOUISVILLE, Ky.—Bellarmine Field Hockey Coach and reigning MAC Coach of the Year Devanny Boisvert has announced her 2022 recruiting class, featuring six incoming freshmen from Pennsylvania, Kentucky, Delaware, and England.
The signees include:  Emma Barlett of State College, Pa.; Liz Drepaul of Louisville, Ky.; Julia Downing of Schwenksville, Pa.; Alicia Hudson of Dorset, England; Madelyn Reed of Felton, Del.; and Emily Williams of Louisville, Ky.
“This group is very well-rounded – they are skilled, athletic, competitive and bright players,” Boisvert said. “They all bring different skill sets that will allow us to continue our progression at the Division I level and in the MAC. All 6 of these players are energetic, passionate about the game, and will be a great addition to Bellarmine University and our field hockey program. I am excited to see them integrated with our returning roster and make a positive impact on Bellarmine Field Hockey.”

Emma Barlett

  • Hometown – State College, Pa.
  • Position – Midfield
  • High School – State College Area High School
  • Club Team – Pittsburgh Venom
  • Field Hockey Awards – 3-time Varsity Letter Winner, 3-time District 6 Field Hockey Champion
  • Academic Awards – 4 years High Honor, HOSA Member, JDRF Advocate
  • Why Bellarmine? The minute I stepped on campus it felt like home. After meeting the team, I instantly felt like part of the BUFH family. 
  • What are you most excited about? – Pregame dance parties in the locker room and being part of a team raising the bar in the MAC.
  • Boisvert on Barlett – “Emma is passionate about the game of field hockey and will bring a high level of field hockey IQ to Bellarmine. She has great fundamental skills especially her possession and her accuracy when hitting.”

Liz Drepaul

  • Hometown – Louisville, Ky.
  • Position – Midfield
  • High School – Male High School

  • Why Bellarmine? – I chose Bellarmine because of the community. I love that the school offers small class sizes, allowing for better learning opportunities. I also love that Bellarmine has a small campus — I like the option to walk to class and being able to walk outside, rather than having to drive. I also like the clubs and athletics opportunities Bellarmine has to offer, outside of classes. 
  • What are you most excited about? – I am super excited to be immersed into the Bellarmine community, through academics, athletics, and clubs!! I am also so excited to be a Knight and play with their field hockey team! I have learned so many life skills through the love of school and sports and can’t wait to keep learning more! I can’t wait to experience college in general! 
  • Boisvert on Drepaul – “Liz is a player that is constantly surprising us. She is a great distributor especially with quickly getting the ball from the left to right side of the field. She is a selfless player that will do all that is asked on both sides of the ball.”

Julia Downing

  • Hometown – Schwenksville, Pa.
  • Position – Forward/Defense
  • High School – Perkiomen Valley High School
  • Club Team – X-Calibur FHC
  • Field Hockey Awards – 2020 Pioneer Conference All Division First Team, 2020 Pennsylvania AAA All-State Honorable Mention, 2020 Mercury All Area First Team, 2021 MAX Field Hockey National Invitational Additional Top Performer, 6 time National Indoor Tournament Champion, 2 time Festival Champion, 1 time Junior Premier Outdoor League Champion, bronze medal winner at National Club Championship, and listed to Class of 2022 100 players to watch list in 2018.
  • Academic Awards – National Honors Society member and Highest Honor GPA 
  • Why Bellarmine? – I chose Bellarmine for its outstanding academics and competitive field hockey program. I loved the feel of the campus, the team, and all the university has to offer. 
  • What are you most excited about? I am most excited to be a part of a growing program in the next four years.
  • Boisvert on Downing – “Julia is a versatile player who has experience on the forward and back line. She is powerful and dangerous in the circle with her sweeps, reverse chip and elimination but also makes solid stops defensively.

Alicia Hudson

  • Hometown – Dorset, England
  • Position – Midfield
  • High School – Canford School
  • Club Team – Bournemouth Hockey Club
  • Field Hockey Awards – 3x Club players’ player, 2x manager’s player, National bronze medallist, U14, U16 and 1st XI team captain for school and U14, U16 and U18 captain for club, 4 years in the England Pathway performance centre, Sports scholar at my high school for Hockey and Netball
  • Academic Awards – Unconditional place at High School, 4x A**’s 2x A*’s and 4x A’s for my GCSE grades, 7x Housemaster commendations for academic studies
  • Why Bellarmine? – I chose Bellarmine because everyone I spoke to was very welcoming and I am really excited at the prospect of joining an up-and-coming D1 program!
  • What are you most excited about? – I am most excited about finally getting on campus and meeting my teammates!
  • Boisvert on Hudson – “Alicia will continue to elevate our possession game in the midfield. Her vision of the field, ability to score and quick stickwork will be assets to us in the fall. She is a smart player with a lot of playing experience.”

Madelyn Reed

  • Hometown – Felton, Del.
  • Position – Defense
  • High School – Caesar Rodney High School
  • Club Team – Oranje-Gottaloveit
  • Field Hockey Awards – 1st Team All-Conference (Junior & Senior), Senior All-Star Game
  • Academic Awards – National Honors Society, Academic Excellence 
  • Why Bellarmine? – I love the Bellarmine Community, location, small class settings and being part of the field hockey program.
  • What are you most excited about? – I am most excited to play field hockey with competitive, hardworking and determined players and coaches.
  • Boisvert on Reed – “Madelyn is a true competitor. She is a determined player that does a great job at attacking from the defensive end. Madelyn has great stickwork and is another versatile player that could play at different positions.” 

Emily Williams

  • Hometown – Louisville, Ky.
  • Position – Forward/Midfield
  • High School – Ballard High School
  • Club Team – IFHCK
  • Field Hockey Awards – 1st Team All-State, 2nd Team All-State, All Region Team 
  • Academic Awards – 1st Team All-State x3
  • Why Bellarmine? – I chose Bellarmine because it is close to home with a competitive culture and a place to grow.
  • What are you most excited about? – “I am excited to play at the next level with a whole new team.”
  • Boisvert on Williams – “Emily is a dynamic force defensively and offensively. She is quick and explosive with the ball plus has great decision making in the circle. She will do about anything to get the ball in the cage.”
